Our new banner is a close-up of a sign of one of San Diego's dying breed: The bookstore.
This particular bookstore is a Bookstar, located on Rosecranz Street at the San Diego side of Point Loma. It used to be a movie theater and now it's a bookstore, thus combining two of the things I love most in this world. But it's really a Barnes and Noble and at that, not a particularly good one (say in comparison to the one at The Grove in Los Angeles or the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica or Union Square in New York City). None of those stores can boast neon and an old theater marquee, albeit with some letters burned out, which still manages to light up the night.
I would like to know who should be responsible for the restoration of this beautiful art-deco neon marque. It would be a glorious local bit of color if it could shine again.
