Lo and behold I plumb forgot I was changing out these banners every two weeks. I guess from now on it's "every two weeks or so."
This week's banner image comes from one of my favorite cities in the country: San Francisco. This heart graces one of the entrances to the city's fabled Union Square. This one is at Stockton and Geary; there's another heart at the other entrance at the corner of Powell and Post. The hearts are part of a charity fundraiser, called Hearts of San Francisco, which began in 2004. The hearts themselves are all created from uniform molds and then painted by individual artists and auctioned. New hearts are placed there every year. (This heart, in fact, may be gone, replaced by another at this point.)
For the life of me, I just can't seem to figure out why I thought this would be the perfect banner for the week of February 12...I guess I'm just getting old. Here's the original photo from which today's banner was taken.
