This is normally the day I would try and come up with some kind of elaborate blog post about some fictional thing going on in my life, since it is, after all, April Fools Day. But I don't feel like bragging about my new post as Health Care Czar in the Obama administration or how I'm really Nikki Finke. (Only one of those things is true, by the way.)
Instead I'd like to alert you the fact that this weekend is WonderCon weekend in San Francisco! Oh, sure, it's Easter weekend, too, but you can bite the ears off of chocolate bunnies anytime (go to CVS on Monday and they'll be half-price!) or go to church every Sunday. WonderCon is a once a year event!
Held at Moscone Center South in the center of one of the most beautiful cities in the country, WonderCon is Comic-Con International's "little sister" show. For all of you who bemoan the fact that Comic-Con in San Diego has gotten too big, this is the show for you. This year's event has an incredible list of comics superstars as guests (Joe Kubert, Adam Kubert, Darwyn Cooke, Frank Cho, Gail Simone, Geoff Johns, Ethan Van Sciver, David Finch, and many more, including sometimes comic writer Kevin Smith), an amazing line-up of programs (Chuck stars Zach Levi, Adam Baldwin, and Josh Gomez; Nic Cage for Sorcerer's Apprentice and Kick-Ass; Mark Valley and Jackie Earle Haley from Human Target; a sneak peek at Toy Story 3 with the director, plus much, much more), and a giant Exhibit Hall, filled with a pop culture lover's paradise of stuff to buy and look at. You can read all about it--and buy advance memberships and save money!--by clicking here.
This is part of what I do for a living, and it's a great show, one I would try to attend even if it wasn't my job. If you read this blog and are in the Bay area, please stop by this weekend and enjoy this great event. I mean after you sit through a sermon on Sunday morning and a boring family brunch, what else can you do on Easter Sunday? Go to WonderCon!
