It is officially June, the month that brings summer to most of the country, at least according to the calendar. For many, summer starts Memorial Day weekend and ends Labor Day weekend, the perfect bookends to longer days, shorter nights, and warm temperatures. Truth be told, September is freakin' hot in a lot of parts of this big ol' country, so I'm not quite sure why the government doesn't invent another Monday holiday late in that month to officially close off summer.
I know more people born in June than any other month, which is frightening, because that means many of them are Geminis. Gemini is the most insidious horoscope sign, due to their innate duality. It means when dealing with them it's almost impossible to figure out who exactly you're talking to, since there are two people present at any given time. Man, I hate that.
I am, of course, a Gemini, so I know whereof I speak. Both of me.
So part of me--I'm not sure which part--is vowing to get back into writing on here. As my daily reader base continues to erode, it's apparent that not all of you are enamored with my book and movie reviews, something which has been the modus operandi of this site for a few months now. I have an splanation, Lucy, a simple, four-letter word, and don't get all excited on me, because this isn't about to change over into a sex-site. That word is WORK. In the past 2 months, I've done 3 publications: a 48-page magazine, a 32-page rules and regulations "manual," and a 224-page full-color book. I love the way the end products look (for the most part; after all, I AM a Gemini, which means the other guy is my own worst critic), and the design and giant jigsaw puzzle aspect of doing these things appeals to me greatly. But as I wrote on Facebook recently, I was looking forward to a weekend that didn't involve any Adobe products, except maybe a brick. I have lived, breathed and slept (or tried to sleep) InDesign and Photoshop for the last MONTH, solid.
So here's my little promise to me: to write more personal things, more thoughtful things, more--hopefully--funny things on here. With the killer month of July looming in the too-near future, I can't guarantee a summer filled with my very best bon mots, wisdom, and witticisms, but I'll sure try. Book and movie reviews are still a guarantee, too, whether you like them or not, because--let's face it--it's MY blog, and I DO like writing them. So sue me.
In the meantime, we'll always have "Friday Foto."
